History
R&S was founded in 1963 by Robert Smith, a hands-on door dealer with a knack for solving problems. Starting in his Oakland carport, Robert salvaged old doors from demolition sites, reconditioned them, and built his reputation one repair and installation at a time.
As his business grew, so did his customers’ need for automation. But at the time, there simply wasn’t a company that could supply the quality products and support he needed, so Robert decided to build his own: R&S Automation, Inc.
From that entrepreneurial spirit, R&S grew into a network of independent companies designed by dealers, for dealers, creating and distributing the automation products, doors, and accessories that installers actually want to use, backed by the kind of service only another dealer can truly understand.
Today, we remain true to Robert’s vision: delivering dependable products, personal service, and the tools to help dealers succeed.

We ship to your doorstep, and offer pick-up Monday through Friday from 8am-4:30pm at our distribution centers located in Northern and Southern California, and Oregon.
